Hi all, I got my new Modx8 and I'm enjoying soooo much 🙂
If I create a drum pattern on PC/DAW and ModX is connected via USB, how can I transfer the sequence to Modx and create an arpeggio pattern? Is there a guide to do that? Can I press "play" on PC DAW and use builtin pattern recorder on Modx as I was playing directly on keyboard? Other ways to do that? Thanks!
Save the PC/DAW MIDI pattern to a .MID MIDI file on a USB flash drive then place the USB flash drive in MODX's USB TO DEVICE port. You can then load in the .MID file and convert it to an arpeggio.

Thanks!

You can do that, just make sure you have "key on start" in the pattern sequencer.
There is a bug that will miss the very first note otherwise.

That sounds sooooo cool (it's the feature I was lookin for) I'll give a try, thanks!

I made a post some time ago to discuss the bug I mentioned, but apart from that it outlines the workflow and settings for that pretty well.

You might want to check the tuts on MIDI routing and settings so everything is nicely set-up and you don't get duplicated notes etc.

The foolproof (or most foolproof) method would be to export your DAW MIDI File as a .mid which you can load to the MODX sequencer. Then you can identify the Track that you wish to convert to a MODX User Arp.
Recording from the DAW to the "Pattern" Sequencer portion of the MODX's Performance Recorder.
The Pattern Sequencer potion is designed to record YOU playing the MODX keyboard and building your Tracks in the MODX. ... it comes with a couple of caveats when you attempt to record from a DAW to the PATTERN Sequencer...
First being, that in order to record data from an external DAW, you must activate KBD CTRL on the PART being used in the MODX... Therefore, if your Drums happen to be on MIDI Channel 10 in your DAW, they will NOT record to the Pattern. You cannot just record the entire 16 MIDI channels over to the PATTERN Sequencer in one operation. You would need to make sure the data you are transferring from the DAW is on a MIDI Channel 1-8 and that the correspondingly numbered PART in the MODX has KBD CTRL active.
You also want to be careful to have RECORD "Loop" = OFF so that your data does not wind up on top of data recorded in a previous pass.
You can --- in your DAW, SOLO just the Drum Track and set it to Output on a MIDI channel that corresponds to the MODX PART 1-8 that contains your Drum Kit with KBD CTRL active.
You can transfer all 16 MIDI Channels of data from a DAW to the "MIDI Song" Sequencer
The MODX's Performance Recorder - each MIDI Channel will be recorded to its own Track and trigger the correspondingly numbered MODX Part.
In both cases you must SYNC Clocks - Set your DAW to SEND MIDI Clock to the MONTAGE on Port 1
Set the MODX to MIDI SYNC = MIDI
So again - the most foolproof way would be a file transfer - it ensures all data is transferred including the first Note
In Cubase for example, you would go to FILE > EXPORT > MIDI File
Transfer it to a USB stick, shuttle the USB stick to the MODX and load it.
Transfer it to a USB stick, shuttle the USB stick to the MODX and load it.
Then hope the next version of MODX/Montage Connect will do MIDI transfer in both directions 🙂 .

Thanks Bad Mister for detailed technical explanation

In my tests here everything happens just like in normal operation of a Performance: if a Part is selected, it will Record, no matter what number it has.
A Part 10 does record if it is selected. Same happens with a Part 1 with KBD CTRL disabled, but which is selected.
You can't, indeed, record something like Parts 10-14 at once.
For Parts with Keyboard Control OFF: I pretend like selecting this Part "turns on" Keyboard Control for only the selected Part and "turns off" Keyboard Control for all unselected Parts. This helps everything else stay consistent in terms of how things operate.

Can you give us a little more than just '??'
Sorry I tried to insert a "thumb up" emote, but forum didn't like that 😉
