Hi everyone!
I have a query ... there is a very useful function that I use in kronos that I cannot find in my MODX. If I have 2 layers for the left hand (Pad and Bass) with the pad I play chords and with the bass single notes. I have the bass monophonic. How do I make sure that when I play a chord (with the pad) in the bass sound the lowest note of the chord always sounds?
I can't find this function!
Thank you!
Please, help me! 🙁
How do I make sure that when I play a chord (with the pad) in the bass sound the lowest note of the chord always sounds?
The MODX will play the last note triggered. So the answer make sure the last note triggered in the chord for the pad is the note you want the bass to sound,
Example: Call up the Performance “The New Ballad”
Press [CATEGORY] > set “Bank/Favorite” = Preset
Search Main = Piano, Sub = Modern
Select “The New Ballad”
Part 1 Acoustic Piano (Left Hand) C-2 thru F#2
Part 2 Acoustic Piano (Right Hand) G2 thru G8
Part 3 Strings across all keys when Super Knob raised
Part 4 Mono Synth Bass C-2 thru F#2
Analysis:
This may not be exactly as you are attempting but it is a good one to study and learn from. When the Super Knob is exactly at 12 o’clock you should hear just the Acoustic Piano across all keys, as only Parts 1 and 2 will sound.
The mono synth Bass (Part 4) will sound only when the Super Knob is between 7-9 o’clock and 3-5 o’clock — you can see how this dip in the middle is accomplished with Element Level.
The Strings in Part 3 will sound only when the Super Knob is turned up past about 2 o’clock.
Press the [Motion Seq Trigger] button to launch the Motion Sequence assigned to Part 3. It is assigned to Cutoff (it automates opening the filter... the Strings Cutoff is also assigned to the MW — you can hear how the Motion Sequence mimics you manually opening the filter six times, moving it less and less each time, in rhythm.
With the Super Knob at maximum you will hear the Strings layers with the synth bass and left hand acoustic piano.
You can see, hear and feel how the MODX engine deals with polyphonic sounds layered with a mono sound... this is last note priority. The synth bass will sound the last note played below the split point.
Hope that helps. You don’t mention the sounds you are combining or any details concerning the MODX data you are working with... but as you can see from the above example when polyphonic Parts are layered with mono Parts, the most recently triggered note will play.
Thanks for your answer bad Mister!
It's not really what I'm looking for. With the google translator I don't know if my message is getting right.
If I only have 2 layers (Chord Pad and Monophonic Bass) I want to play the 3 note chord at the same time and always have the lowest of them sound with the bass.
Is this programming possible?
Thank you!
There's no note priority option when using a monophonic part (maybe something that could be added in the future?)
But, there are bass arpeggios that are based on the chord you're playing. Try setting the arpeggiator for your bass part and try the arpeggios in the Bass category and choose ones that have a _C at the end of the name. These arps trigger based on the chord you're playing, so if you play a chord, the bassline should follow that chord.
The other option is to use a split, and play the bass and chords separately, but if you're also wanting to play a lead, you'll need 3 hands, sequence a part or get creative with the sustain pedal.
It's not really what I'm looking for.

The MODX will play the last note triggered. So the answer: make sure the last note triggered in the chord for the pad is the note you want the bass to sound,
Kevin is correct. You can assign the bass Part to an arpeggio - this will greatly increase the flexibility you will have with chord recognition.
You can select a Bass line Arp Phrase that is low note priority. This will allow the lowest note in the Arp Note Limit Range to determine the Bass phrase.
See attached an example in MODX CONNECT format. "Mono Bass + Pad.X8B".
Download, unzip the file and open with MODX CONNECT - this will send it to the edit buffer of your instrument without overwriting any internal sounds.
The Bass is a synth mono bass - following the arp that is always going to play the lowest note provided it is below B2 (Arp Note Limit Range is C-2 thru B2)
Also, if I just wanted the bass to "lay" on the lowest note of a chord - I'd use an ARP. It's faster for me to create my own ARP than look for one that may exist which is similar/the same.
1) Performance Recorder (Press Record Button, Choose MIDI)
2) Turn off all Parts except for Part 1
2) Set the rec quantize to 480, 1 quarter note
3) Press play (as in Record+Play) and, after the pre-count, press middle C and hold it for 4 measures. Then let go and press the stop button.
4) Press on song name and choose to convert to an ARP.
5) Set the ARP type to "Org Note"
Note - change the song/arp name at appropriate screens so you can find the name later.
Then your bass part can use this user ARP and the lowest note played will be played by the bass. I set the ARP and bass note range to stay out of the way of the right-hand. And I also go into the ARP settings for bass and change a few things in advanced as well to bump up the velocity offset and adjust the ARP's trigger timing. But that's the general idea. Same as the ARP suggestions previous - only that you can "roll your own" ARP that works to play the single lowest note and mimic what your left-hand pinky is doing (for the most part). Legato playing in the left hand doesn't always trigger a new bass note - but works well in more detached situations. This is no different than using a built-in ARP.
If you wanted something more rhythmic - you could always play single-note repeated when recording the song before converting to an ARP. The user ARP lets you choose your own note lengths.

Thank you very much Kevin, Bad Mister and Jason!
The arp option can certainly be a solution. I think the one that best suits my needs may be Jason's idea.
I will try it!
Hopefully Yamaha will implement this function in future updates, for me it is very useful!
Very grateful for your contributions!
