Today I had my first outdoor gig with the MODX. The sky was overcast but the screen was still completely unreadable unless I cupped both hands around it.
Has anyone fashioned a sun shield for the screen?
We recommend a tree or awning...
Seriously though, there is no cure for direct sunlight, short of shade. Hopefully, it is the brightest light you will ever see. Maybe you want to try some of those tactical glasses for driving a car when there is glare. Anything you get will, of course, be affected by the angles (your position, the screen’s position, and the direction of the sunlight — If it’s directly overhead you’re sunk.
Summary: Play indoors or undercover whenever possible... if you have to play outdoors with no canopy of any kind, make sure you get paid extra!!! Keep a thermometer on the surface of your instrument. The air could be 90 degree F, and the surface of your keyboard might be twenty degrees hotter (be careful in direct sunlight... all that stuff in the front of every manual, that no one reads, warns about this).
__ Do not expose the instrument to excessive dust or vibrations, or extreme cold or heat (such as in direct sunlight, near a heater, or in a car during the day) to prevent the possibility of panel disfiguration, damage to the internal components or unstable operation.
It's common to see shades over screens during outdoor gigs.

I'm designing a collapsible (for flat storage) shade right now that I will 3D-print today. I'll share it if it works.
It won't be wind-proof. LOL!
B. Mister, I have some of those anti-glare glasses in my car. Wish I'd tried them.
There's always next Sunday. We're going to be doing these outdoor church services for a while.

That could be another advantage of the white Montage over the black one. (And for the opposite situation, a poorly lit stage, where it can be harder to see dark controls on a dark surface.)
As for the sun shading for screen visibility, I wonder if something like this could be adapted... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0062WRU8A
I designed a pretty cool collapsible shade. But then the church discontinued outdoor services so I didn't 3D-print the largest piece yet.
