I downloaded the file to thumb drive and tried to load it as directed. After failing the first time, I did the download again. same result with illegal file.
Ideas?

On Yamaha website. I may have inadvertently used a non-Montage formatted drive. Would that be the answer?

I'm sorry, I was asking which one (what part of the world). I realize there may be issues related to where in the world you are and which registration site was the download coming from.
There can be any number of causes - it would be impossible to peg it down to just one thing. Most USB sticks come formatted and ready to use. Most drives just work, not every drive can be tested. So could it be the issue? Possible.
