Initialized Part Tutorial?

Hello,

I'm looking to create new synthesizer sounds on the montage. Obviously there's a lot of great presets that I've been playing around with, but I'd also like to create some synth sounds myself using various parameters such as LFOs.

I know there are some articles and tutorials about initialized performances and the super knob, but how about initialized parts?

Thanks,

Dave

Initializing a performance will also initialize a part! So, you may start with an initialized performance, create there a new part and save the performance as a single part performance. Once saved, you can import that part into a new or existing performance.

Definitely. My question is more if there are any walk-throughs about the different types of things you can do in manipulating a new part to create different types of sounds?

Too vague... the ear/brain can recognize over ten trillion different sounds... anything in particular?

There are different categories of initialized Performances. The two main ones you will be dealing with in programming a Performance from scratch will be the AWM2 and FM-X initialized Performances. AWM2 uses the thousands of built-in samples so this is your sample playback side of Montage. FM-X is the modeled side of your Montage and acts like an enhanced DX7 using FM (frequency modulation) as the synthesis method instead of sample playback.

This video shows starting from the AWM2 initialized Performance: https://youtu.be/aikn82Fvswg

Basic - not sure what you're looking for, though.

Thanks, the AWM2 tutorial is essentially what I am referring to, but a FM-X initialized performance tutorial is more what I am talking about as this is more frequency manipulation and modulation.

I think maybe to be clear, I am looking for a similar tutorial like the below link for Cubase's Retrologue (yes I know this is very basic):

Thanks again

When searching the site for tutorials from Yamaha, use google:

site:yamahasynth.com/resources SEARCH_TERMS

Enter the above in the search (including site: -- with the colon) and replace SEARCH_TERMS with what you're looking for. Like:

site:yamahasynth.com/resources "FM-X"

or to narrow down to Montage

site:yamahasynth.com/resources montage "FM-X"

You'll also see Manny's FM Manifesto series which I did not link to, but is a useful tutorial from an FM expert.
