I was reading this article
https://yamahasynth.com/learn/modx/rhythm-pattern-mastering-modx
and hoping to find out how I would change the time signature of a rhythm pattern. I've been finding good patterns that match the songs I'm playing but sometimes I find one that fits the genre +/- but needs a change to the time signature. Is this possible?

The answer is no.

The only place where there is a Time Signature parameter is on the Pattern Sequencer (Recorder).

This delineates the "Click Track" pulse.

So if you set it to 7/4 (Pink Floyd - Money) for example, you'd get...

Tick Tock Tock Tock Tock Tock Tock Tick Tock Tock...

This gives you the opportunity to create your own User Arp which will be in 7/4 time if you do it right..

All you can do when using Arps, is set the Tempo (BPM)

There are a handful of Factory Arpeggios with odd time signatures, but they are mostly 4/4 or 12/8.

You can make some 12/8's sit in for a 6/4 by imagining a downbeat on the 7th half-beat for example.

Or a fast 3/4 sit in for a 12/8. But these are just explorative workarounds.

It's not too hard to create your own basic Drum Arps, if you just need to create a more elaborate Click Track in the correct meter.

You can make more elaborate drum patterns but you'll need to be fairly adept at finger drumming in time.

Not possible.

Instead of using Rhythm Pattern - you could add a drum kit to a Part and then edit the arpeggios.

The data list shows the time signatures available:

https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/9/1341759/montage_en_dl_j0.pdf

Start looking at page 125 - ARP #6292. Check out the 6th column for the time signature. The last column shows what drum kit the arpeggio best fits. However, you need not worry about this and just try a mismatched kit to see how it sounds. Mostly it should be OK.

Whatever your target time signature is - unless it's 4/4 - there's not a lot of choices. So you would start there - just see which arps match your intended time signature. Your choices go through to page 144 (arp #9733).

On board - there's no way to filter by time signature. The data list is really the source of all information available for built-in arpeggios.

You cannot take something (arpeggio based) in one time signature and "tell it" to "do" another time signature - if that makes sense.

Thanks - I'll just have to dig in a bit and learn to make my own (perhaps using the same kits and general patterns). Thanks for the tips.
