Is it possible to use Melas Performance Editor or any other means to save all Montage performances on your laptop and use an external controller to play the sounds through the Performance Editor software? Without the need for the Montage to be hooked up.

No, that’s not possible and I would assume it will never be. That would require implementing a full copy of the Montage software to run on a PC. Yamaha could probably do that but why would they? Others would face very steep technical problems even if we forget about obvious legal challenges...
