Hi everyone. I've just bought a Yamaha Montage 8 on Friday and it's incredible, from what little I know. The synth came with os 2.5 and I was looking to upgrade to os.3.0. I don't have any saved data, so I was wondering, can I just download the software online and install it or do I need to use 2 stick and save one for the data? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You only need to Save a file is when you have custom (User) data. When you take the time to build your own Performances or when you have customized a factory Performance to suit your requirements, you would “Store” the Performance to the internal User Bank. If you have no User Bank data, you can skip the step of saving a file (the word “Saving” is used to refer to process of putting data onto a USB stick, and the word “Store” is used to refer to the act of writing data to the MONTAGE’s internal User Bank).
You can just proceed to download and update your instrument’s firmware.
The instructions are included with the download, as is the “Supplementary Manual” that outlines all of the additions to the original release MONTAGE — in other words, it includes all New Features that been added to MONTAGE since the original manuals. These are provided in several languages.
I highly recommend you find and read the Updater instructions. Read them twice... the first time to get an overview of what you will be asked to do. Then a second time as you execute the process.
If you get stuck, post back here.
Thank you very much for getting back to me. That is excellent advice. I'll do that, and also with the manuals. I've only got the owners manual that came with the synth, so I'll make sure to read everything that you suggested. Thank you once again.
