Hi,
I'm a fan of FM synthesis.
I have had the TX81Z, the SY77 and the FS1R.
I understand you want to copy all the DX presets inside the Montage but FM has evolved in all these years.
I think that Zebra virtual synth is the most sophisticated fm synth on the planet.
Behind the synth success there are the "presets". The work of the sound designer is crucial.
I suggest you to engage the sound designers that worked around the UHE software company to unleash the power of your fm engine...
So, please, don't copy the old DX presets...

Regards

Hi Gabriele

Thanks for your comment and long-time support of Yamaha synthesizers!

Here's a little hint about the FM in Montage: we had some of the best FM programmers in the world spend nearly two years with Montage and the result is simply amazing. While there are classic DX and TX Performances, there are also Performances unlike anything you've ever heard. When the FM is combined with a core Montage feature, you can really tap into a new dimension of expression.

Thanks again for your comment!

The ability to "be able" to load DX sounds is important. They may seem a bit old hat to some but many musicians are finding new and intriguing ways of using these old DX sounds in today's music.

Being "compatible" with DX sounds doesn't make the FM in the Montage in any way less powerful or restricted. FM-X is incredibly powerful and with today's technology it's the true potential of FM can at last be realised....and you don't need a degree in the fundamentals of FM to do it 🙂

I want to copy few personal sounds from DX21, DX11 and V50 (.syx). Is this possible(because I can't do this thing with my Kronos) ?
Thanks!

How will the Montage read old DX7 sounds? I've got over 16 banks in Galaxy format, lol. I even keep an old computer and interface around to load them into a TX816 just in case the TX816 gets Alzheimers after 30 years! Also I have a bunch of the old cartridges, some of which have amnesia; and a Beetle PR-7 Programmer unit, which could also use some viagra.

Will read only single presets from the DX/TX, no .sys no banks, just single sounds, then you could save them to the flash and have all of them together

Point of order... We have not seen the conversion program yet (no one has, outside of the developers) so to conclude it does not do banks maybe a bit premature. There is plenty of time before either the Montage or the converter is released. But the plan is to have compatibility with DX7, DX7 mkII, TX802, TX816... Yamaha DX-FM. And since you can setup a Montage Performance to be 8 DX7s, a 64 Operator TX816 on steroids is possible!

DX-FM sounds are so relatively tiny, they are not stored to FLASH, (afaik)... Flash is for backing up large audio (Sampled) files.

Loading entire Banks could be huge, but my doubts.....hopefully, we'll wait, but in th meantime the Montage is a Beast on FM-X, sounding awesome!!, I tested it at the Namm 2016 and sounds stunning !

I come back with a question:

Greetings to all of the people on forum. Especially for Yamaha team. I have a similar question. Is it possible to load, convert single presets from DX11, V50 to Montage? I plan to buy one of your synthesizer, Yamaha Montage. In the Balkans, there are very popular single presets for TX81Z, DX11, V50.

Because of the many synthesizers I work with, I do not have time to look for information in the store. In our country (Serbia) Montage can not be tested for more details in the store . Great shame for your major importer.

I made my own presets, which unfortunately can not be used on the DX7. Although this is perfectly clear to you as well, but I write for people who may have had litle time to get to know the differences between the Fm synthesis that has 6 or 4 operators. There are many people here who would buy Yamaha Montage. Surely 2000-3000. Also, they are waiting for the very popular user presets. I'm asking for an answer to my inquiry. Is there a possibility for my, or any user presets of DX11, to be added to Montage. I wish I could do it through syx single presets. Although I am ready to convert Envelope Generator and other functions, in that case, it would take a lot of time. I sincerely hope to get your answer. You do not do enough for our market in the Balkans. Pay more attention to your customers in the Balkans. The Balkan expansion, for PSR, that was sampled in Belgrade and the sounds sent to Japan for that occasion did not satisfy our needs. If you do not trust me, ask other customers. I appreciate Yamaha. For me, this is the best company that produces synthesizers. I'll play Yamaha most likely for life. I would like you to pay more attention to us here in the Balkans. Synthesizers are played here a lot.
