Encouraging progress, thanks to help here, but I have another question (surprise!). When layering Performances, it often happens that the 8 slots aren't enough. Many Performances contain Parts which are redundant in my opinion, and it would be very helpful if I could remove them. Can I? I know that Presets are sacrosanct, but maybe they can be copied and the copy changed? I don't see a way to do this, but then, I don't see a lot of things until someone points them out!
There may not be many in my pathetic little boat, but if you haven't come across Hans-Peter Henkel in the 'Yamaha Music Production Guide' then I recommend you seek him out. No frills and very clear explanations. He and Bad Mister are Gurus indeed ... stay well ...
The presets can all be edited and once you press Store you can save this as a new performance which will then save it as a user performance. After this when you make changes and press Store you have 2 options - either to save it again as a new performance or overwrite the current performance - presets can never be overwritten.
To remove parts you don't want simply select the part either by touching the parts name on the screen or by pressing Part Control and Part Select for the part number - it will then have a white outline around it and on the left hand side of the screen there will be an option to Delete.
Hope this helps
Thanks Phil - I'm not at the Montage right now - people arriving for lunch soon - but can I do that with presets? I thought that couldn't be done? If it can, all I need do then is Store it as a new Performance - presumably the original preset will re-appear intact when called up. Seems far too simple for Yamaha! Now I can't wait to try it - and I can't until lunch is over and cleared away ...
Yes the preset performances can be edited and then stored as a new performance.

The Performance PARTs only seem redundant, I highly recommend you figure out the role the original programmer had for those Parts before you Delete them. There are no "redundant" Parts, just FYI.
Hello Phil, tried out your procedure, and it works fine. Thank you! Makes Life easier. And Bad Mister, I totally agree that there are no 'redundant' Parts in the make-up of Performances composed by the programmers (I do listen to the Auditions - many are pieces of music in their own right!), but their intentions and mine are not the same thing, so I can often do with a simplified Performance in order to fit something else into the available space. My comment was never meant as a criticism - those guys are so far above my head such an idea is funny! Pax?
My comments were not meant as defensive, just FYI, just a matter of fact; a Part can seem to have no role but is there for a specific articulation or only under certain conditions. You might see three Parts named Brass Ensemble - this doesn't mean they are redundant, they may well be missed under certain performing conditions.
