Startech USB3 to VGA doesn't work....

Do you even get a green screen?

Make certain that you have the monitor on first or if you have a self powered hub, they must be turned on before you power up the Montage. At some early stage of the boot-up process the Montage sends out a signal to the device and if it's not on then it won't work.

The Montage USB port is only 2.0 500mA compatible and some USB3 devices require 900mA which is not good for the Montage port.

Thus far my Plugable devices have worked flawlessly.

Never use any "bus powered" USB splitters either.

...nope nothing, as you say, most likely the power needed for USB3.0

Is there a list of (or just one) compatible adapters for remote viewing yet? Would really like to have this functionality.

Apropos my query ref: repeating the little Montage screen on a computer, this has been raised before on this Topic I've resurrected, which never seems to have been resolved. The Tyros could do it, PSRs too - so why not the Montage? Especially as the screen can't be tilted either. So may I ask if there is beavering behind the scenes to correct this oversight? Only one USB port is another oversight, in my view, as a second could have used with a VGA adaptor - certainly there's a workaround, as some demos actually showed it. Bad Mister was expecting to provide a list of compatible devices, which would be nice - I use StarTech for both the Tyros and a second screen for my computer, and it's extremely useful.

About that list of compatible devices . . .

Not to be pushy, but, it has been over a year since the last comment.

I would GREATLY appreciate a larger display since my vision, well, SUCKS--seriously, legally blind musician here.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Seriously, thanks,
Scott

Scott. I just posted video on this. It will work without a touch screen also but the touch screen is heaven.

Someone asked earlier about how to generate these "pristine" screen captures. There may be other ways to do it (some secret button combination, some MIDI command, some "montage connect" backdoor) - but there's a brute-force way. Once you convert the video to HDMI/VGA for connecting an external screen with any of the USB-to-video devices listed in this (and other) threads as working - you can use a video capture device converting back to USB and able to take pristine screenshots.

Something like:

https://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-YPBPR-Recorder-Capture-Device/dp/B00MXK8SGS/
or
https://www.amazon.com/1080P-Video-Capture-Support-Driver/dp/B01MXZUOY3

I have an old VGA-to-USB converter somewhere around here that was cheap at one point and likely still works. If I can get composite through conversion - then I also have some video capture for recording TV (DVR) devices that would work.

Investment here is around $50 for new. I think I may have found some deal a while back for less - local stores sometimes want to clear out the old/dated converters. Using some of these (clearance items) may not hold up with latest operating systems. Check manufacturer website (if available) for driver compatibility.

I usually keep old systems around with later operating systems in order to avoid having issues using certain legacy hardware. Something like video capture doesn't need the latest OS and transferring the images over the network between an old system and new one is simple enough.

... just throwing out some food for thought of how to accomplish capturing Montage's touchscreen images.

Scott - I think you just latched on to a dated thread. There were a few more current ones covering this.

Here - I take a guess at the monitor in a video and another user confirms it works:

Some discussions of alternative possibilities - but none except the Dell S2240T touchscreen have been confirmed.
https://www.yamahasynth.com/forum/external-monitor-usb/latest

Notice the mention from Yamaha about external monitors placing a strain on Montage. I would say that this can be mitigated by using a powered USB hub or self-powering the monitor with a supplied power adapter. Either of these should alleviate the power draw incurred through USB. At the software level, there are some other possible resource issues - but since a screen is essentially static while performing - I'm not sure there will be any impact to more critical tone generator / MIDI /etc. resources. The fact remains that as this is unsupported - you also do not have this as tested or qualified so the impacts not bounded.
