Is it possible to use this kind of files on montage? If it is necessary to convert it haw can I do to convert them to usable montage files?
Thanks.

I'm not sure what a .X7A or a .X7V file is, perhaps you are referring to the .X3A (All data) and .X3V (All Voice) files from the Motif XF series...

See attached, from the Montage Reference Manual.

Montage converts these files without anything external - it should load them directly. There are some exceptions where some specific data characteristics give Montage issues with the conversion.

Be sure to back up your user data before attempting to load anything which targets user memory. As a safety step, I would just backup at any time a load operation is to be done even if you believe the load will be non-destructive.

I've never had a problem having too many backups - but I've been faced with too few once or twice.

Ok. Thanks. I've changed ex tension on X3A and X3V and montage see that but when I try to charge it "illegal format" message came out....
I'm quite sure that these files comes from motif xf...
Anyway .... I will investigate about it

If the files came from a Motif XF they would have has an extension .X3_ in the first place. How did they become .X7A and .X7V (which by the way do not exist)!

I'm not sure if your operating system is Mac or PC - and if PC if Windows or Linux or ...

If PC/Windows:

Windows-Key, then type "cmd" (without quotes) and press "Enter" or "Return" or however your keyboard labels that key.

This should pop up a black box with a "DOS prompt" - if you're good with that, type

cd "C:yourdirectorywheretheX7AFileIs.X7A"

Where cd means change directory and C: could be another drive (maybe your USB stick is D: or some other drive). In this case, do type the double-quotes above to cover directories that may have spaces in them. You can press the "tab" key to auto-complete.

Once you are in the same directory as your .X7A and .X7V files you can type: "dir *.X7?" - without the quotes - which should list the two files. Then enter the following "type *.X7A" - without quotes. Yes, type the word "type" then space then asterisk dot X7A. Then press Enter.

You should see a line at the top: YAMAHA-YSFC 1.0.2

Or some other number after YAMAHA-YSFC.

The better way to look at this would be a hex editor - but this can work just as well assuming a ^Z stops the text from scrolling by. You may be able to enter "type *.X7A |more" (add "|" = shift+ - usually above the "Enter" key - then more) which will only show the first page and will format the text slightly differently.

This YAMAHA-YSFC then 1.0.2 (or something close) is the versioning information portion of the header and can inform you what the correct extension may be. If "YAMAHA-YSFC" is not there, then there may either be corruption - or possibly something different - different/older format. Maybe a MO - which uses M7A files (not X7A) and you may see "8E57 ALL Ver 01.00 YSFC" instead.

The MO files are not compatible with Montage. They've always been different although you could (technically) convert them - this has never been a supported option direct from Yamaha.

Motif XF does show support for W7A and W7V which are said to be Motif XS/MO6/MO8.

Rather than getting into all that - "typing" the front of the files you have and extracting the "YSFC" versioning information would better help identify the files.
