I've started discussion on another thread.
It will be better to move discussion on dedicated post.

And so.
I have a problem with connection MotifXS8 to Macbook via Firewire.

You should have a FW cable that is 6-pin to 9-pin.
This should connect to a 9-pin to Thunderbolt adapter.

I have exactly such FW cable (400-800 pin, made by Aliexpress) and Thunderbolt adapter (made by Apple).

I cant install IEEE1394 firmware

Of course, NOT. You have to establish a connection BEFORE you can even know if you need this firmware update.

I really understand that point.
Could you explain how it may be: connection did't establish but I see XS in hardware report and even can manage controls by using XS Editor tool?

Thank you for creating a new thread... let’s go through the checklist... so far everything you mention above is understood. Excellent. The Driver is installed and likely working we just need to verify a few settings...

The Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver has two components a MIDI component which is setup on the following page of your XS:

Press [UTILITY]
Press [F5] CONTROL
Press [SF2] MIDI
MIDI I/O = mLAN

The Editor tool is MIDI only so likely this is setup properly... and is why it is working...

The other component is Audio:

Make sure your Motif XS is set to use the proper IEEE1394 Driver.
Press [UTILITY]
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF4] AUTO LOAD
make sure the IEEE1394 Driver = FW.

If not, select FW, then press [STORE] and reboot the Motif XS

I've done it.

Make sure your Motif XS is set to use the proper IEEE1394 Driver.
Press [UTILITY]
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF4] AUTO LOAD
make sure the IEEE1394 Driver = FW.

IEE1394 Driver was set to "mLAN" and I can't change this parameter.

Ok we have found your issue. It’s been ten years since I had to deal with an XS issue such as this... but if you cannot change the mLAN to FW for IEEE1394, this explains why your computer does not see the mLAN16e2 installed in your XS.

I will need to check with our Customer Support desk on Monday...

Do you have any old drivers for mLAN products installed on your computer (01x, Motif ES, i88x etc)? If so please uninstall them.

Generally I always uninstall all drivers before install the next one. Certainly, with all Mac reboots.
Actually, I have only the one driver on Macbook - Yamaha Steinberg FW.

And anyway, I shake your hand. Thank you.

Before Yamaha introduced the FW Driver In 2007, there were several mLAN and AI Drivers, you were asked to uninstall these befor you installed the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver... I need to know if you have any other conflicting drivers installed.

Go to your System Preferences, listed under “Others” you should see the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver... are there any other Yamaha icons or the mLAN or AI Driver icon?

Is it possible to switch the parameter "IEEE1394 driver" by load a data file (.X0A) with all system data?

What do you use the Maudio FW for?

Also...on the Motif XS
Press [UTILITY] to enter UTILITY mode
While in UTILITY mode press the following three buttons together

[UTILITY] + [UP CURSOR] + [F1]

The Firmware version will be shown.
What does your XS report?

I tried to use M-audio Firewire 410 audio-interface to connect XS to Macbook. It doesnt work also, because Maudio no longer support this product.

The Firmware version will be shown.
What does your XS report?

Firmware version 1.60.1

Well, using it for the XS, that would never work... since it is no longer supported, why not uninstall it. It may be causing a conflict... no harm in trying

why not uninstall it

Because I installed it just 2 month ago.

It may be causing a conflict...

I dont think so. If this audio-interface would make the impact, I recognised it.
