Two questions: I'm using an XF8 at church but don't know if there is any flash memory installed. Would I use UTILITY to find out how much, if any? Second, let's assume that all I have is the standard volatile memory (this is likely the case). I want to create a performance that is a combination of piano and one shot samples mapped to several keys that doesn't exceed the 128mb limit. Would the best way to do this without flash memory, be to create a user performance with the Motif piano of my choice, load the samples from a usb drive, map them to the appropriate keys in the performance, then save the new performance with samples to a usb drive to be loaded into a user location when that song is performed? The other keyboard players don't have access to a computer to trigger samples from so everything would need to be done within the Motif. Thanks.

Press [UTILITY]
Press [F6] FLASH
If FL Boards are installed they will be shown here as FL1 and FL2 and will show their size and amount of memory used.

The best way to proceed is to build a separate Drum Kit Voice in VOICE mode to house the one-shot samples. Then create a Performance that uses the Piano of your choice and the Drum Kit containing your one-shots, as two Parts.

One shot samples can be directed directly to the Keys of a Drum Kit Voice... why you want a Drum Kit Voice is because it can trigger the full length of the audio without having to continue to hold down the key... the entire audio clip can play from just touching the Key (normal instruments require you physicall hold the Key to continue sound, Drum Keys can be set to not receive Note-Off, which mean they can be triggered and play the full clip without you having to continue to engage the key. (A whole note to a drummer, is different from a whole note for a piano...)

Thanks Phil, that was helpful info about using drum voices. And I also wanted to confirm my description of saving the performance and samples to a usb drive then loading it from a drive to a user location each time I want to use that performance.

You would save your data to an ALL data file type (.X3A) from an All Data File you can restore exactly what you need each time you power up.

You can use the Motif XF’s AUTO LOAD feature to load your custom data each time you powe up the XF.

Keep the USB stick in the slot when powering on the instrument and it can be “taught” to go and get a specific file.

Press [UTILITY]
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF4] AUTO LOAD
Set “Auto Load” = On
Press [SF5] SELECT>
Navigate to the exact file you want to automatically load, highlight it
Press [SF5] GET

Press [STORE] to write your changes to Utility mode into your instruments ROM.
Now whenever you power up with this usb stick in the slot, it will load your All Data File restoring your Voices, Performances, Waveforms, etc.

No. The Motif XF built-in Memory maximum is 128MB
You’ll need a Flash Board.
