Hi guys, have anyone of you been using the Yamaha ipad apps available for editing voices and master setups?

I have beein using a similar setup for editing my (well, vintage) Roland gear (jx8p and juno-2) together with the ipg-800 app that is available, but on the moxf, it doesn't work at all.

I normally use the usb for midi, but when trying this setup, i switch over to midi (in the utility menu) and i can see activity on my midi-interface (which is the ESI ro/mio btw (class compliant). I connect my ipad using the apple camera connection kit (again, works fine when adjusting params on the Rolands). Is Yamahas proprietary midi interface mandatory? (can't see why, but need to ask....). I can see (on the ro/mio) the activity leds going, but there is nothing happening on the moxf at all.

When looking for required FW version of the moxf on the Appstore, i can't find anything mentioned. I currently have 1.10 on my moxf, is 1.11 required?

Hi Daniel, Welcome to YamahaSynth!

Hi guys, have anyone of you been using the Yamaha ipad apps available for editing voices and master setups?

I have, and hundreds of others...it's been in the marketplace and working for several years. There are apps for Voice Editor Essentials, Performance Editor Essentials, and Multi Editor Essentials. (Sorry, no Master mode app).

I have beein using a similar setup for editing my (well, vintage) Roland gear (jx8p and juno-2) together with the ipg-800 app that is available, but on the moxf, it doesn't work at all.

? the Roland app will not work with your Yamaha gear. Is that what you are trying to do? that don't work! Your vintage gear is not equivalent to MOXF, the MOXF can connect to iOS devices directly.

I normally use the usb for midi, but when trying this setup, i switch over to midi (in the utility menu) and i can see activity on my midi-interface (which is the ESI ro/mio btw (class compliant). No, a Yamaha interface is not mandatory, and also not required is whatever the ESI ro/mio is. What is that and why is this even in the conversation? Try connecting without it.

Connect the MOXF to your iPad using a USB cable and the Apple Camera adapter, period. Don't complicate the setup with Roland gear or the ESI. Simply connect your MOXF directly to your iPad. It is that simple. And is what the hundreds of folks using it are doing.

When looking for required FW version of the moxf on the Appstore, i can't find anything mentioned. I currently have 1.10 on my moxf, is 1.11 required?

A FireWire version of the MOXF ??? The MOXF is not FireWire compatible. You should update your MOXF anyway, but if your FW is short for FIreWire there never was any compatibility there with MOXF, sorry.

Hope that helps.

Hi Bad Mister and thank you for replying.

and a big "doooohhhh" to myself 😀 Sometimes one can't see the forest for all the trees (or should that be, "can't see the moxf for all the midi interfaces" :))

I was so stuck in the old way of thinking, where a midi-interface was mandatory... didn't even think about that it was possible to connect directly from the ipad/c.connection kit to moxf. I do now, and it works perfectly. Thanks heaps.

Should have written 'firmware' and not FW (as you say, that is something different). I thought firmware 1.11 was mandatory for this to work before... Will probably update it to 1.11 anyway.
