I'm running Cubase Elements 9 on a PC based desktop computer.

UR44 is audio interface (preferred setup. I previously had Moxf8 setup directly to computer via USB).
Main L/R output to monitor speaker
Moxf8 is connected: L analog output to UR44 Input 3 via stereo cable
R analog output to UR44 Input 4 via stereo cable

Windows 10 Pro
AMD Fx 4130 Quad-Core 3.90 GHz
16 Mb Ram
64 bit operating on 64 bit processor

I am able to record, monitor, and listen to recorded Moxf8 "audio" tracks.

I'd like to further explore MIDI.
How do I use Moxf8 to record MIDI tracks? Via VST instrument?

What is hardware setup to record Moxf8 as both audio and MIDI tracks?

Molto Grazi

You state you have a "stereo cable" connected to both the Left Output and the Right Output... that is not right. You should use a standard unbalanced TS Cable for each Output jack. The TRS cable will not hurt anything but there I see no extra benefit, the MOXF is unbalanced outputs.

You can opt to connect the MOXF to the computer via USB for MIDI, or you can connect the MIDI OUT to the MIDI on the UR44, and the MIDI OUT of the UR44 to the MIDI IN of the MOXF.

I'm obviously a novice to this DAW world.
Thanks for the info on cables. I'll use my TRS cables for other audio devices.

If I connect Moxf via USB, does this affect using the AR44 as Audio Device?

In both scenarios (USB versus MIDI connection), please assist with bus and port settings.
Do I need to make connections to the A/D Input?

Molto grazi

No, it does not. You can still use the UR44 as your Audio interface.
You need to connect the MAIN L/R outputs of the MOXF to the UR44.

In both scenarios (USB versus MIDI connection), please assist with bus and port settings.

Go to DEVICES > DEVICE SETUP > MIDI > MIDI PORT SETUP

In the column labeled "In All MIDI Inputs" make sure only the MOXF Port 1 is marked... clear the other items in this column. It is reserved for devices that you are using as your Input Controllers for MIDI data

Setup via MIDI cables between UR44 and Moxf8.
MIDI Port Setup per attached .PNG file.

Moxf8 is set to transfer via MIDI, not USB.
All of these settings may be correct, but I'm having trouble hearing and recording MIDI track.
I'll read more and re-watch MIDI tutorials.

With USB setup, MIDI Port Setup per 2nd attached .PNG file.
Seems to work well, but not sure if I should modify settings.

Thank you Bad Mister.

If you are connected to the MOXF via standard MIDI cables then your first screenshot above is correct.

The second screenshot is never correct under any circumstances- not even if connected by USB. it is just completely wrong (why is it included). In fact if you are connected via USB Compare it to the one I posted... I'm not even sure why you included it.. ?
Please unmark MOXF Ports 2, 3, and 5 - they will eventually cause you issues.

Port 1 is the MOXF
Port 2 should only be connected under the REMOTE DEVICES option, not here
Port 3 should only be connected when an additional device is connected to your MOXF's 5-pin MIDI IN
Port 4 is reserved for the Editor VST should not be connected here
Port 5 is reserved for the Remote Control of external soft synths, should not be connected here
