Triggering MOXF key (with sample) from a remote guitar MIDI source?

Hi Phil - I have created a number of short string sequences, recorded them as .wav files, and now want to place them (the .wav files) as samples in a VOICE on various keys of the MOXF (per the standard practice). I know how to do this and, in particular, how to control triggering of them either by hand or by an internal program. Here is the question: can the per-key "triggering" itself be off-loaded to an external midi source? The midi source is not my computer, however; it is a midi guitar that outputs midi notes via a standard 5-pin midi connector. So, assume sample 1 is fixed at C3 on my MOXF, sample 2 is at C#3, etc., it is possible to play that "C" or "C#" on the midi guitar and have the midi note "trigger" the respective MOXF sample to play? It seems like it should work, but I wanted to check with you in advance regarding setup, potential issues, etc.

Thanks as always for your helpful advice.

David J.
