I am really excited about the Reface CP and ordered one. The idea to have a keyboard that I can swoop up in one hand, walk to another room, put on my desk and play: wow! I love the fact that the Reface has batteries and built-in speakers.
I am happy Yamaha went with AA batteries and not with a non-standard Li-ion battery. The latter would give a longer playing time, but the AA form factor is ubiquitous and I have plenty of Eneloops laying around.
Will Yamaha release a Reface with acoustic piano sounds in the future? I can imagine sounds like Yamaha's Grand, Bösendorfer, Upright Piano and Honky-tonk. For real-time controls: EQ (lo, mid. hi), Open/close lid (gradually), or Bright/Mellow (gradually) and Reverb.
Thanks,
Maarten
Don't know if you saw this, but somehow i found an acoustic piano sound on the reface CP. Unfortunately i don't know how to get it back.
If they did a new reface cp that had acoustic piano sounds and a 4 octave keyboard, I would be all over it!
They could also drop the toy piano and put in a string sound to layer with the piano, and it would be incredibly useful!
Adam I actually came to this forum tonight because I saw your youtubes. Pretty wierd but also somehow encouraging that maybe there is a way to consistently get that sound, because clearly it is lurking in there somewhere!
Thanks for your interest in my video @daniel. Yes weird behaviour from my CP. Maybe it was a one off glitch that accessed a part of the sound engine/chip that is shared with the CP4. I'm guessing wildly as i know nothing about the technical insides of a keyboard! Actually i've had to solder new micro switches into my Akai MPK88 but that's another story.
But i'm hoping i can recreate the piano sound one day.
Adam.
Turn off the CP.
Place the instrument selector button midway between any two instruments.
Make sure it stays there when you take your hand away.
Turn on the CP.
You now have an acoustic piano sound. The instrument indicator will state RdI, even if it's actually between Clv and Toy, for example.
Turn the knob either way and it will revert to the selected instrument.
Hey guys!
I really like the grand piano easter egg function on the CP, but it's a bit tricky having to turn the synth off in order to find it. Does anybody know if there are any mod options available?
It would be nice if Yamaha adds a setting to with the next firmware to change between toy and real piano for the preset switch.
(PS: I bought the DX last week and I am really happy with the overall quality! Now I decided to buy the CS and CP too ;-). What great little machines!)
