I have the Motif ES6 that I still love.

However, I was looking into what's new out there.

For a while, I was convinced that MOXF6 is a good one to upgrade to until I tried the Motif XF6.

I am reading up on the XF features and I noticed it says FSX on the action.

Is it just me or is it different and better than my motif ES action and definitely different and better than the MOXF6 action?

Could it psychological in my part because I see the price tag of the MOTIF XF6? lol

On usage:
While I do sample once in a while, I usually use my ES for multi zone and splits for live performance using Pattern/Song multi track sounds for smooth transitions.
So action is important. Just FYI.

The Motif ES6 had Yamaha's FS action. Arguably the most sold synth action ever (since it was used in both the Yamaha DX7 and the Korg M1 among other keyboards between the early 1980's and 2007) - Yamaha introduced the FSX action to replace the the FS when lead (weights) were banned (Motif XS was the first with FSX) - the FSX is a lead-free version of the FS action. The Motif XS6/7 and Motif XF6/7 feature the FSX action.

The MOXF6 does not have FSX action - it has its own specially developed action - so if you are touchy (pun intended) about your action, it is always recommended that you not only try one out at a music store, but also look into UTILITY mode to adjust the VELOCITY CURVE (the most overlooked and important parameter for those playing any electronic keyboard with either semi or fully weighted action).

You would be very hard pressed to feel a difference between the FS and FSX actions in a true blindfold test. You would definitely feel the difference when playing the MOXF6 action. The MOXF-series comes in synth action 61 and a Graded Hammer weighted action on the 88 - one of the major differences between the MOXF and the Motif XF series lineups is the keyboard, controller and pedal options (more on the Motif XF series). The MOXF-series do not generate Aftertouch. The Motif XF-series do generate Aftertouch and as mentioned the 6 and 7 have the familiar FSX action, the 8 has Yamaha Balanced Hammer action w/Aftertouch (Balanced Hammer has a consistent weight across the entire range of keys as opposed to the Graded Hammer where the low keys offer more resistance than the higher keys. The Motif-series also features a Ribbon Controller and options for additional momentary and sweep pedals.

So in a true blindfold listening test you probably would not be able to tell the difference between the MOXF-series and the Motif XF-series, certainly playing the keys would feel different between the two series of keyboards. This is why when purchasing a musical instrument, it is so very important to try it for yourself... like trying on a new pair of shoes, the sales person always recommends you walk around the store with them - because only YOU can decide what feels best for YOU. And with keyboard players touch/feel and response is so very important.

Ask your sales person "How do I adjust the VELOCITY CURVE?" If they are sharp, they will know.
It's found the same place it is in your Motif ES - In UTILITY mode under GENERAL > KEYBOARD _ This overall curve setting has a profound influence on how the keyboard feels... Then recognize that each and every VOICE can be further customized to your personal playing style (just as in your ES). But the "soft", "normal" and "hard" settings are worth exploring - I recommend playing each for about 10 minutes, varying what you are playing (ballads, solos, comping, etc.) put it through some paces. You cannot really tell anything about what you like until you've played for a while.

With the advent of the Motif XF Fully Loaded promotion there has never been a better time to get the Motif XF

There is also a MOXF rebate going on as well...

Decisions, decisions, hope some of this helps!

I will play with velocity curve settings. i never bothered and I was quick to dismiss other keyboards too without playing with the setting.

Again, so much appreciated and yes, decisions, descisions, DECISIONS!
