Hello,
I recently purchased a YAMAHA DX7IID in really good shape and everything works as it should. I wanted to know opinions about the battery change. Should I wait for the synth to tell me it needs a battery change? Or should I be proactive and change the battery before it needs it? When replacing the battery, I will definitely add a battery holder.

The synth will tell you when the battery should be checked.
Always make backups of your data. Then you never have to worry... There are only two kinds of technology users, those who back up their data, and those who eventually have a catastrophe!
