Currently, I have a variety of MIDI devices/synths:

Yamaha XF
Kurzweil k2600 rack
Computer/Cubase 8 front end with Omnisphere
Korg M3 rack

I control all those devices with a Kurzweil PC3. The SETUP mode on the PC3 is a fantastic capability for controlling multiple MIDI devices.

Strongly considering upgrading to the Montage.

What I'd prefer is to 'play' the Montage and control via USB (to computer) or MIDI OUT all of the above devices.

So my question is, does the Montage have the capability to control external devices via both USB and MIDI and a corresponding ability to control ancillary capabilities on those devices such as reverb, other effects, volume, pan, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

The Montage is extremely capable as a controller. When used 'standalone' (not connected to a computer or host device) the Montage 5-pin MIDI ports work as standard In/Out/Thru, however as soon as you connect the Montage to a powered on host computer via USB, the Montage becomes a 32-in/6-out audio interface for your computer, and it becomes a MIDI interface for an external device connected to its 5-pin MIDI ports. You can use the DAW or software application to address whatever you require.

The multi-port USB driver addresses the Montage as Port 1 and the external connected MIDI device as Port 3. With this configuration - either keyboard or both can be used as input devices and/or as tone generators..
The USB audio bus system is flexible enough to accommodate stereo and/or mono busing so that individual drum and percussion sounds can be routed and recorded discreetly.

The Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver is an audio and MIDI driver, that turns Montage into the most powerful hardware/software combination. The 32 audio buses are Main L&R plus 30 assignable outputs.
Analog inputs can be used as modulation sources within the Motion Control engine.
Flexible routing allows processing external inputs... Both analog and digital
